Choose the type that matches the quantity your estimate needs. - Measure flooring or slab area. - Measure baseboard, footing, or roof-edge length. - Count items shown on a drawing. - Account for roof pitch when measuring roof surface area. #### Before you begin - Upload your PDF plan set and open the relevant sheet. - Verify scale against a labeled dimension. - Identify the units your estimate parameter expects. - For pitched measurements, find the rise and run on the plans. Do not assume a pitch. --- #### Measure a flat area 1. Open the drawing that shows the surface you need to measure. 2. Choose **Area** and the draw or fill-area options. 3. Complete the shape using the drawing controls. 4. Review the boundary and resulting area. 5. Name the measurement for its scope (e.g., Kitchen Flooring). 6. Check openings, islands, and boundaries before using the quantity. Do not assume a shape includes or excludes an opening correctly without reviewing it. --- #### Measure a length 1. Choose **Linear** and **Flat** for a flat length. 2. Trace the route you need, such as a baseboard run. 3. Complete the measurement. 4. Review the route and total length. 5. Give it a descriptive name. --- #### Count items 1. Choose **Count**. 2. Mark each item you need to count on the drawing. 3. Check for missed items or duplicates. 4. Name the count for the item type and location. If a door or window schedule already lists quantities, review that schedule rather than assuming every item needs a manual mark on the plan. --- #### Measure a pitched roof area 1. Open the roof plan and verify scale. 2. Choose **Area**, then **Pitched**. 3. Enter the rise and run shown on the plan. 4. Trace each roof plane to the outside of the overhang. 5. Keep roof planes with different pitches in separate groups. 6. Review the resulting surface area. Roof area does not include every roofing quantity. Measure ridges and eaves separately with **Linear Flat**, rakes with **Linear Rake**, and hips or valleys with **Linear Hip**, using the pitch where required. --- #### What happens next Map the reviewed quantity to an estimate parameter with matching units, then select **Apply**. Keep material conversion, pricing, rounding, and waste calculations in the estimate. A roof area is not a shingle count or a complete material list. Takeoffs does not automatically complete the entire takeoff for you. --- #### Troubleshooting ##### My roof area is too small Check whether you used flat area instead of pitched area and whether you included overhangs. ##### My roof length looks wrong Check that the linear mode matches the feature; ridges, rakes, and hips use different modes. ##### The quantity is unexpected or incorrect Check the scale, traced boundary, units, and pitch. --- If you have any questions or need further assistance, contact our support team at [support@ressiosoftware.com](mailto:support@ressiosoftware.com).
