Organizing and Editing Takeoffs
Use descriptive names, groups, and colors to keep your takeoff readable as you measure more of the plan. Organizing quantities in the language of your estimate makes them easier to review and map correctly.
- Separate quantities by trade, floor, room, or estimating scope.
- Reduce visual clutter while measuring one part of the plan.
- Review an existing measurement before applying it to the estimate.
Before you begin
- Select the project’s takeoff.
- Have at least one measurement to organize.
- Decide which quantities should be reviewed together.
Name measurements clearly
- Select the measurement you want to identify.
- Open its naming controls.
- Enter a name that describes the scope, such as
Level 1 flooringorKitchen baseboard. - Check that the name distinguishes it from similar measurements on other sheets or floors.
Group related measurements
- Identify measurements that belong to the same estimating scope.
- Use the grouping controls to organize them together.
- Name the group for the trade or location.
- Review the subtotal and confirm the group contains only the intended measurements.
‼️Keep measurements with different assumptions separate. For example, separate roof planes when pitch changes, and avoid mixing single-sided and double-sided wall measurements in a group that assumes one treatment.
Use color and visibility
- Choose a consistent color for a trade or scope.
- Apply descriptive names so the meaning does not depend on color alone.
- Hide measurements you are not currently working on using the visibility controls.
- Show the relevant measurements again when reviewing the scope.
Review and edit a measurement
- Select the existing measurement.
- Review its geometry and any applicable height or pitch settings.
- Use the available edit controls to correct it.
- Check the new quantity and any related group subtotal.
- Review its estimate mapping before applying the revised quantity.
- Select Apply when you are ready to update the mapped estimate value, then verify the estimate.
What happens next
Takeoffs autosaves your work. There is no separate Save button. Applying a mapped quantity to the estimate is a separate step from autosaving a measurement.
Exporting or printing marked-up sheets and quantity summaries is not currently supported.
Troubleshooting
I cannot see a measurement
Check that you are on the correct sheet and that the relevant measurement or group is visible.
A subtotal looks wrong
Review group membership, measurement type, scale, units, and any height or pitch assumptions.
