[Takeoffs](https://help.ressiosoftware.com/feature-guides?hsLang=en#takeoffs) # Takeoffs overview ## Takeoffs helps you measure quantities from PDF construction plans and use them in your Ressio estimate. Instead of re-entering measurements from another tool, you can connect plan quantities to estimate parameters and review the results in one workflow. - Measure floor areas, lengths, or counts from construction plans. - Use measured quantities to update your estimate. - Keep measurements connected to the plan you used to create them. #### Before you begin - Have a readable PDF plan set and a labeled dimension you can use to verify scale. - Open a project with an estimate that already contains the parameters you want to update, such as flooring square footage or baseboard length. --- #### Complete your first takeoff 1. Select a project. 2. Select **Takeoffs**, or choose **Open takeoff** from the estimate. 3. Upload your PDF plan set or select a PDF plan from your Ressio files. 4. Open the floor plan you need to measure. 5. Set the scale on that sheet. 6. Verify the scale against a labeled dimension before measuring the rest of the plan. 7. Choose an area, linear, or count measurement for the quantity you need. 8. Measure the relevant part of the drawing. 9. Give the measurement a descriptive name, such as `Kitchen flooring`. 10. Select the **Parameters** tab. 11. Map the measured quantity to the matching estimate parameter. Use the same units, such as square feet to square feet. 12. Select **Apply**. 13. Open the estimate and confirm that the intended parameter contains the expected value. --- #### What happens next 💡Takeoffs autosaves your measurements. There is no separate Save button. The mapped estimate value remains editable. Use the estimate for waste, rounding, pricing assumptions, and other adjustments. Review quantities before relying on them for a bid or material order. - Takeoffs does not automatically complete a full takeoff or generate a complete material list. - Full visual plan comparisons and offline work are not included. - AI room-area and symbol detection may not be available for your company. You can follow the manual workflow without them. --- #### Troubleshooting ##### My quantity looks wrong Check the sheet, measurement type, scale, and units.
