Viewing Budget Summary in Ressio
Discover how to view and understand the budget summary in Ressio.
The Budget Summary is one of the most important parts of your project in Ressio. It gives you a clear, real-time overview of the financial health of your job, what was originally planned, what has changed, what has been spent, and what you’re projected to earn.
Whether you run Cost Plus or Fixed Price jobs, understanding this summary helps you quickly assess where the project stands and what needs your attention.
Why the Budget Summary Matters:
✨Your budget is the source of truth for project cost visibility. It shows:
-
The original cost of the job (from your estimate)
-
Any approved changes impacting that cost
-
What’s been committed or spent
-
How your profit is trending
-
How invoicing compares to the work completed
-
Square footage, internal notes, and other quick-reference data
By getting familiar with the Budget Summary, you can confidently track job performance, identify issues early, and keep everything consolidated in one place.

Overview of Budget Summary Sections
The Budget Summary is designed to show both cost performance and financial performance at the same time.
As you move across the budget, you’ll see different sections grouped by function. Below is a breakdown of each major section and how it contributes to your job’s financial picture.
Understanding Budget Columns (Green)

The Original Column represents the locked estimate values.
Once your estimate is locked 🔒:
• These values remain fixed
• All revisions and approvals are measured against them
Think of this as your baseline.
The Approved Column reflects values that have been approved by the client.
This includes:
• Approved changes
• Approved revisions
These numbers represent the active financial reality of the job.
The Committed Column captures real financial activity:
• Applied actuals
• Bills
• Expenses
This column shows what has truly been spent or committed.
Completion Status helps you quickly assess:
• Work completed
• Amounts collected
• Projected values
This provides immediate visibility into job progress vs financial performance.
Financial Summaries
Profit Summary (Light Turquoise)
The Profit Summary shows how your job profitability is trending.
Profit is influenced by:
• Markups
• Applied costs
• Projected performance
Projected profit indicators:
• Green → Positive trend
• Red → Negative trend

Price Summary (Light Purple)
The Price Summary combines:
-
Budget values
-
Profit values
This is how Ressio calculates your total project price.

Invoicing Summary (Light Purple)
The Invoicing Summary tracks:
-
Issued invoices
-
Collected amounts
-
Billing performance
This allows you to quickly compare invoicing activity against budget performance.

Square Footage (Pink) & Internal Notes (Grey)
All the way to the right of the Budget Summary, you’ll find:
• Square Footage
• Internal Notes
These provide helpful quick-reference context without leaving the budget.

Using the 'View Summary'
The View Summary provides a high-level financial snapshot of your project. The 'View summary button' is next to the '+New invoice' button in the right hand corner of the budget.

Instead of scanning across multiple columns, this view consolidates key data into a simplified breakdown.
The View Summary displays:
-
Original price
-
Approved changes
-
Approved price
-
Pending changes
-
Actual adjustments
-
Projected price
-
Collected amount
This is ideal when you need a fast financial check-in without diving into detailed columns.

Use the collapse arrow on the right of the summary to expand for a more detailed breakdown.

💡 Adjust the budget tab layout for detailed analysis or a simplified overview based on your workflow needs.
Client Budget Column Controls (Cost Plus)
For Cost Plus projects, you control which budget columns are visible to clients in the Client Portal.
Use Customer View to define exactly what clients see when the budget is shared.
Customer View
Open the Budget Tab and locate the 'Customer View' panel on the right hand side under 'Columns'.

Once the view summary opens, you can configure which columns should be visible to the customers in their budget view. From here you can:
-
Use the customer view from another project by clicking: 'Copy from existing project'
-
Search columns
-
Click and un-click budget columns
-
Preview directly from the view summary what the client sees

✅ Don't forget to hit the 'Save' in the bottom right hand corner of the view summary to save changes.
Preview Client View
You can view what the client sees two ways. You can either click the 'Preview' button on the bottom of the 'View summary' when in the budget OR you can click the eye icon on the top left corner of the project on any page.

Once you have opened the customer view, open the budget tab to review in the client portal. The preview displays only the selected columns.
Enable Budget Visibility
Clients do not see the budget unless visibility is enabled.
-
Open Project Settings
-
Select Customer
-
Toggle Budget Table Visibility ON
Column controls apply only after visibility is enabled.
